Copenhagen International Theatre

Copenhagen International Theatre has been a driving force in the field of international performing arts in Denmark for around 30 years. Copenhagen International Theatre has produced more than 50 major international festivals presenting performances of more than 1000 ensembles in Denmark. Copenhagen International Theatre presents primarily original works, the experimental and unknown, performances of cross-over and mixed media in unconventional spaces, other cultures, including non-European cultures. See www.kit.dk

Copenhagen International Theatre introduced contemporary circus in Denmark back in 1987 with a guest performance by Zingaro. Since then they have presented more than 50 international contemporary circus companies and their performances. An international seminar in 2000 resulted in the first Danish publication on the subject, Det Teatrale Cirkus.

Copenhagen International Theatre presents contemporary circus in the biennale Ny Cirkus Festival including approximately 8 companies with 30 performances for 10.000 audiences. Ny Cirkus Festival takes place in Copenhagen in August in even years.

Copenhagen International Theatre is also engaged in the development of Danish contemporary circus through a series of ongoing activities on a national, Nordic and European level including masterclasses, laboratories, production support, seminars, research travels, etc. These activities are primarily for the Danish artists, but also target the media, universities, decision makers and audiences. The Danish collaboration partners are the Danish Artist Union and the Academy of Untamed Creativity (AFUK). See www.ny-cirkus.dk
